About our Karate School

At our dojo we study Nihon Goshin Karate-Do Traditional Japanese Hard Style Way of the Empty Hand. We opened our doors in March 2019.  We have been working very hard to grow and share our knowledge with the community.

We have a secondary school located in Delmar, NY.  Dewey’s Martial Arts Academy has been in business for 30 years and counting.  We offer many Martial Art styles for our students to expand their Martial Arts knowledge.

I started martial arts training in 1980 with Seido Karate under the instruction of Russ Jarem in Clifton Park when I was 14. I was rather small and an easy target for bullies. I had older brothers that motivated me to do Martial Arts, so I sought out a school and began training. I received my 1st Degree Black Belt in 1984 and opened my first school in 1986 at a Delhi college campus. I attended Delhi College studying engineering. I continued my training while opening up a Dojo on the college campus. During this time, my teachers decided to leave the Seido organization and start the U.S. Budokai Karate Association. I joined the NYS Energy Office and later took over one of the Budokai Karate schools in Delmar. I left the U. S. Budokai Karate organization and started the Nihon Goshin Karate Do, Dewey’s Martial Arts Academy.   I then opened the Delmar location in 1990, and the East Greenbush academy back in March of 2019. Currently, I hold a 7th degree Black Belt and continue to love training and teaching this art to others! Since then I have trained generations of students and have graduated over 100 to the rank of Black Belt. At Dewey’s Martial Arts Academy, we focus on all aspects of Karate training and encourage cross training on other martial arts. We have embraced several partners to help us in this mission and now have 11 different arts training with us under one roof.
